Laser Hair Removal
At Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery Center, we understand the growing need for a permanent treatment for unwanted hair. Our years of experience and research have led us to the Lumenis™ Lightsheer™ Diode Laser. This laser provides permanent hair reduction for all skin types. This solution is preferred by most of our patients over other, temporary, sometimes messy and painful, remedies such as waxing, plucking, and chemical depilatories. After just a few treatments, desired results are achieved in most patients.
How does the hair removal laser work?
The Lightsheer™ Diode Laser inhibits your hair follicles' ability to produce hair by applying a high intensity pulse of light to the treatment area. This light heats the hair follicle to the point where it can no longer function. Because it works primarily on hair follicles that are in the active growth stage, multiple treatments are required to completely rid the area of unwanted hair. Because the hair follicles are being super heated, it is important to utilize a cooling device to reduce the temperature of the treatment area during the procedure.
Is the procedure painful?
The laser treatment may cause some minor discomfort, but most patients handle it well. Topical anesthesia is an option in more sensitive areas of the body. Immediately following the procedure, you may experience some redness and swelling around the treated hair follicles. This is the desired result because this is an indication that the treated follicles responded to the procedure. Most people are able to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
