Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an MD and a PA?
An MD and a PA differ in the amount of time spent in school. Our staff is highly qualified and experienced with all of the procedures and treatments performed in our practice. Each of our MDs and PAs can treat, diagnose, prescribe and perform any procedure at Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery Center with the exception of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. Dr. Barrows, a board certified and highly skilled surgeon, performs all Mohs surgeries in our practice.
How often should I see a dermatologist?
Everybody, regardless of age, should see their dermatologist at least once a year to get a full-body skin examination. Patients with a previous history of skin cancer or family history of skin cancer may need to be examined more frequently.
As part of a full-body exam, a dermatologist will inspect all of your moles and potential skin cancers and will also identify any potential problems that might be developing on your skin.
Will my condition be addressed and treated on the first visit, or is a consultation required?
Most conditions will be addressed and treated on the first visit unless surgery is required. Surgeries are scheduled at specific times, on specific days and through a specific nurse, depending upon the type of procedure required.
Do you take my insurance?
We accept most insurances with the exceptions of Medicaid and CHIPS. If you have an HMO, EPO, or POS you will need to obtain a referral from your primary care physician prior to your appointment. Please check with your insurance carrier for accurate information regarding your benefits.
Who can I talk to if I have a non-emergency medical question?
If you have a question concerning your medication, wound care instructions or just general dermatology questions and would like to speak to a nurse you can email our Nurse Webline: tanya@mdbarrows.com
**Please note that this nurse webline is for exsisting patients only.
What is your refund policy?
